In 1775, the relationship between the American colonies and England was strained. Going to war against England was a common topic. On March 23, 1775, Patrick Henry delivered a famous speech to the leaders of the Virginia colony. A small part of the speech follows.

I would choose death however I would want to fight for what I believe in. I would rather be dead knowing that later people might get freedom rather than be alive and be a slave. If I believed in something that strong I would fight for it.

2. His main idea is that they only want peace and freedom as said in this, "Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?"
3. I would much prefer liberty. If you mean to take or to give I would take liberty over death and give people liberty over death at any time. I believe this is what I would do because liberty, by definition, is the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behavior or political views. I would much rather that then to inflict, or receive for that matter, what dictionary.com says death is, the end of the life of a person or organism; the state of being dead.

1. What Henry meant by when he says "The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ear the clash of resounding arms" is that the British army will start a war with the colonies.
2. Patrick's main idea in the speech is why are the colonist standing there and doing nothing about the war, meaning that they either stand there and take the British's rules or they stand and fight for their freedom.
3. I would choose liberty because I would not stand around and let my freedom be stripped away from me.

1) When Patrick Henry says, "The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ear the clash of resounding arms," he means that war has already begun north of Virginia in Massachusetts. The fighting will only get closer to Virginia.
2) The main idea in his speech was that in order to secure freedom, they had to be willing to risk their lives. "Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!" This part of the speech explains that by fighting (dying) they have a chance at freedom.
3) In my opinion, I would choose liberty because I would rather live free than die a slave.
