America's belief in its "Manifest Destiny" was both a blessing and a curse. The blessing was that this philosophy helped to strengthen our country while adding new lands to the United States.

One negative side affect is that we began to lose connection with Europe, which we would eventually come to peace with. Another is that we lost connections within our own families by moving so far into even more unadventured land. Next, we brought slavery into the new territories and caused a disruption, or the American Civil War. Finally, we took over and killed the Native American Indians, their animals, and destroyed their homes.
