I think this political cartoon relates to Uncle Tom's Cabin. This point of view is coming from the northers because it mentions that they are murdering neighbors and family. A freesoiler would feel like slavery is being forced down their throats because of the new fugitive slave law.
This cartoon relates to slavery. It's coming from the slaves point of view because the slave who is being "forced down the throat" is asking for help and saying my poor wife and children. A "freesoiler" would feel like slavery is being forced down their throat because the government made rules regarding slavery such as a stricter slave law saying law abinding citizens have to help catch run away slaves or they could be fined or put in jail. So, these "freesoilers" have to follow these rules that the people have no say in and if they don't follow the law, they pay the consequences.
I think it means that the North does not want anymore slave states. The North feels like they are having to put up with slavery when they know it is a horrible thing. They want to end slavery. This is coming from the North's point of view. The South keeps turning more free soil into slave soil and the North has had enough. Maria Castro-Rodriguez period 1
This cartoon relates to the fact that people who are against slavery have to still deal with it even though they are up north. This cartoon is from the slaveowners view. The freesoilers feel that slavery is being forced down their throat because it is still an issue highly debated in the country, and even a law was created. For example, the Fugitive Slave Act stated that all fugitive slaves must be returned to their owners. So now, if a frees oiler did find a slave, they had to choose between giving him/her back, or breaking the law. The cartoon also shows the government officials standing on the "democratic platform" and holding the man down. This gives the image that it's the government who's forcing it down the frees oiler's throats, not the southerners.
I think the political cartoon relates to a slave being forced to do something he doesn't want to. In the picture, it shows a man being pushed and pulled around everywhere and he doesn't want to be. In the caption above him it says, " MUR D E R!!! Help_ neighbors help, O my poor wife and children." He is saying how he is being abused. I think this is coming from a slaves point of view. A "freesolider" would feel that slavery if being forced down their throat because someone in the North that might disagree with slavery might be forced to tell if a slave was running by due to the law.
Finbar Quinn period 2 The cartoon means that most northerners thought that they forced slavery on possible slaves and the northerners call it murder cause most slaves die working and the people doing it are the southern states like Kansas. Also a freesoiler would say its stuffed down their throat is because it always talked about and disscussed
This cartoon is about slavery and how many people think it is bad. This was definitely drawn by someone who is against slavery to show their point of view. A freesoiler would feel like slavery is being “shoved down their throat” because it is all around them, and there’s nothing to do about it because the South is fighting for the right to own slaves. –Victoria Yencik, Period 3.
This political cartoon relates to the civil war when the southerners fought for slavery and northerners wanted it to end. this is coming from the point of view of a northerner because they feel like slavery is is being forced down there throats. they feel that way because keep saying they don't think its right and they want it to end but they fight back by saying whats in it for them and the northerners don't know what to do for them. They just wish that slavery had never happened.
i think that this political cartoon represents how we are taking away many people freedom and anti-slave states and people dont agree with it.Free soilers should be able to do what they want but instead are forced to live with slavery and getting their freedom wrongly taken away Amanda Hanna period 1
This picture is from the point of view of a freesoiler or anti-slaver. The people who are against slavery feel like the slavers continue to build up their power and fight against the people who feel slavery is wrong. The slavers bring slavery into places that the anti-slavery people are, such as territories that are becoming states, and make them uncomfortable. It shows that they have no control over the slave owners, who 'force slavery down their throat.'
The political cartoon relates to democrats doing things forcibly to slavery that a freesoilers wouldn't like. This cartoon is most likely coming from a freesoiler's point of view. A "freesoiler" would feel like being forced slavery down their throat, because they felt the presents of slavery so much in certain places that they might have became over whelmed.
I think that this cartoon relates to a freesoiler not being able to help the slaves. I think it is about that if a slave escapes then the northerner under law has to take it back or be punished. This point of view is coming from a northerner. They feel that a slave is being forced down their throats because they are being forced to tolerate it. Kenny Schneider period 1
I believe this cartoon is referring to the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 and all the violence that came with it, because it allowed popular sovereignty to decide if slavery would be in place in states entering the Union. A free-soiler would feel that slavery is “forced down his throat,” because this law made the Missouri Compromise no longer in effect so those opposed to slavery would still have to deal with slavery in their state and forced to comply. Not to mention, the elections for slavery were completely unfair because people from other states would come and vote for slavery. This is coming from the point of view of the people who believed in anti-slavery. The free-soiler’s head is on a platform that says Cuba, Central America, and Kansas, which showcases all the places the Democrats wanted to extend slavery toward. The people who were forcing the slave down the free-soiler’s throat were most likely democrats as well. Period 1 Michelle A.
This political cartoon relates to being forced to deal with the slavery in our nation. The 'democratic platform' pictured is shown with politicians helping by holding the freesoiler back. This shows how some people are fighting to keep slavery and make people deal with it. This is probably coming from a freesoiler's point of view as they are the people that feel as it slavery is being forced upon them. They might think it's being forced down their throats because slavery is being enforced in the south, and they are against it. It's against what they think, and they feel as if it's being forced upon them to deal with it, when they want to have free states.
Sam Gertner Period 1 I think this picture relates to the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 because the picture says that slavery is being forced down the throat of a freesoiler. The Fugitive Slave Act required Northern citizens to help capture runaway slaves. Someone who didn't support slavery would have to help capture slaves which relates back to the picture. This point of view is coming from a Northerner because using the term "shoving slavery down the throat of a freesoiler" sounds very negative towards slavery. Also, the picture shows the Democratic side with 2 men pulling on the freesoiler's hair, trying to get him away from the slave. This also suggests that the point of view was from a Northerner. A freesoiler would feel that slavery is being shoved down their throat because they are required to help capture runaway slaves. They were being forced to support a cause they didn't want to support.
This political cartoon is saying that people who are free and think that slavery is wrong are being forced to do things they don't want to do. Like if a slave escaped and they helped him/her the would be arrested. They are saying that is wrong and they can't make them do that.
This political cartoon relates to slavery being a part of free states/people's lives, even if they don't want it to be. All free people don't want to be associated with slavery in anyway. This is coming from the perspective of free states. Slavery would be "forced down the throat" of free soldiers because the states, Congress, and politicians are arguing over whether it should be allowed and whether states should be free or not. Therefore, Northerners are being forced to choose a side in the argument. DJ Foley Period 1
I believe this political cartoon means that the people who are for slavery are trying to convince the people against slavery to understand more about their point of view. The slavery side is forcing the idea to a level at which it is heard 24/7. Katrina J. per. 2
This political cartoon relates to the Kansas-Nebraska Act and how the Democrats want Kansas to be a slave state. Hence the "Democratic Platform".
This point of view is coming from the anti-slavery point of view that feels like slavery is being forced down their throats by the pro-slavery party.
A freesoiler would feel slavery is being forced down their throat because of how everyone is trying to push slavery to people who don't want it. They don't like it and feel that it is being forced upon them.
Megan O'Meara Period 3 This political cartoon relates to how the freesoilers felt during the time of slavery. This cartoon is coming from the freesoilers point of view. The proslavery groups may have been forcing them to join their side. If they didn't then their families could be hurt. The cartoon says, "O my poor Wife and Children". Therefor they may have felt like being on the proslavery side was their only option. This may have felt like it was being "forced down their throats".
This political cartoon relates to how the freesoilers felt during the time of slavery. This political cartoon is coming from the freesoilers point of view. This looks like proslavery groups may have been forcing freesoilers to join their side or else their families or friends would be hurt. In the political cartoon, the guy getting strapped down says, "O my poor Wife and Children." The guy may have been saying this because the proslavery people were going to hurt his family if he didn't join their side. This picture also looks like the proslavery men are like "forcing it down their throat."
I believe that this political cartoon is from a northerners point of view. I believe this because the slave is talking and the northerner is the main point of attention in the picture. The southerners were forcing slavery down the northerners throaght by making them help capture their slaves in the free territory wich caused much anger in the north because bounty hunters and government would come up and take an African American free or not.
I believe this political cartoon relates to the new fugitive slave law as some of the men in the picture looked angered at the african american man and wanted to put him into the life of a slave; they enforced this new law greatly. However, some of the other men in the picture looked in sorrow or guilty to be ruining these african american's families. It relates to the torture that the pro-slavery people put their slaves through; as there is a man seemed to have been hanged from a tree in the background. This cartoon also demonstrates how the freesoilers refused to take part in this fugitive slave law as the man being forced to open his mouth looks angered by this decision. The point of view this political cartoon is coming from is the anti-slavery people demonstrating their metaphor of, "Forcing slavery down the throat of a freesoiler." A freesoiler would feel as though slavery was being forced down their throats as the new fugitive slave law, I mentioned prior, states how if a slave escapes into free land and an anti-slavery person sees this runaway slave he must help to catch the slave and bring it back to it's rightful owner; this going against their beliefs.
I think this political cartoon relates to how the south was almost forcing the north to commit to slavery and if they didn't then they would kill them. This point of view is most likely coming from an abolitionist because of the way others are literally forcing slavery down the mans throat. A 'freesoiler' would feel that slavery is being forced down their throat because it is starting to to spread to places they do not want it to be, even though they do not support it in general, and that they would be threatened dead if they did not start to accept it.
I think this political cartoon relates to how the northerners feel like the southerners are forcing slavery on them. The northern states do not feel like slavery is needed and the southern states are forcing slavey "down their throats". Also, when the northerners say no to slavery, they take their wife and children and still force slavery on them. Meghan Lancaster Period 8
I think this political cartoon is talking about how the freesoilers are people who want to live in a slavery free state but the government is forcing them into slavery. They want everyone to be free but they are involuntarily being handed slaves. I think this cartoon is in the perspective of another free soiler watching what will soon happen to him. He is seeing the government forcing people to do things and taking away their rights. I think the freesoilers feel like slavery is being forced down their throats because they have no control. They cannot do anything about it. They are being forced to have slaves.
I think that when it is slavery being pushed down your throat means that it is being talked about it too much and making it seem like a bigger problem than it actually was at that time. I think that the term freesoiler means the people that don't have slaves. I think it is coming from the south. Dawson P.
I think that this relates to the Northerners who want slavery to end so it's not an enjoyable thing to have slaves like it used to be. I think this is coming from the northerners point of view because they wanted slavery to end. A free soilier would feel that this is wrong to do because they are against the idea of slavery. The free soilers also don't want slavery to expand so they probably aren't happy about this painting. Sarah Townson period 2
This political cartoon relates to the fact that the free-soilers were against slavery. However they were forced to put up with its expansion even though they did not agree with the southerners. They believed that it was wrong to imprison innocent people and treat them with disrespect. Clearly the free-soilers felt this way because the South was dominating the North which prohibited slavery. The south then started manipulating them into following laws that promoted the attack of slaves from the public if they were seen. This caused great anger because the free-soilers along with the Northerner's simply felt defenseless in this fight.
This is a point coming from the north, or free states, and the the picture is saying that south states are moving slavery into the north, and that they are forcing slaves "down their throats". Freesilers are feeling crowded and pushed because of slaves.
This political cartoon relates to The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. This act enabled popular sovereignty for Kansas becoming a free-state or a slave-state. The point of view being portrayed here is that of the anti-slaverly community. "Forcing slavery down the throat of a freesoiler." That means the freesoilers (people against slavery) are being forced to live with slavery in there state. The slave owners would buy up the farmland leaving no room for non-slave owners. In result, to make a living, the non-slave owners would need to have slaves to make profit and keep their land. Tommy Brisch
This political cartoon relates to the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. The people of free-states thought it was unfair to be dragged into portraying the roles of slave catchers. The people of these states who felt it was necessary to follow the law and capture the slaves felt like "murder" or exploiting captured slaves to the law, was being "shoved down their throats." The northerners felt that newly admitted states should be free-states so that slavery wouldn't spread. Being asked to "help" slavery was restricting their beliefs as represented with the rope around the man's shoulder and the men holding on to his hair. He can't struggle or run with these restrictions and this was how the northerners felt. The expression on the man's face is a look of worry because he has knowledge that if he closes his mouth or tries to leave, the law would "sit" him right back down and help them enforce the law that he didn't believe in. Emma McCarthy Period 8
This political cartoons relates to to the freesoilers. This is how they felt during the time period of slavery coming from their point of view. They were forced into the pro-slavery side. Pro-slavery was the only option and if they didn't do what the they wanted then them and their family can get hurt. Being in this situation it is like it is being "forced down their throats."
I think this political cartoon relates to the Fugitive slave law. I think this because the "freesoilers" didn't like this law because they opposed slavery, and they were not happy with the fugitive slave act because it made them support slavery. In other words slavery is being "forced down there throat." The attitude of this cartoon makes me think that this is from the view of a "freesoiler". Mainly because it makes you piety the freesoiler. The "freesoilers" felt it was being shoved down their throats because if they find a runaway slave they must turn them over of they would be a criminal offender.
This political cartoon relates to slavery in America and blames democrats for violence against antislavery settlers following the Kansas-Nebraska Act. It is mostly likely referring to the democrats wanting to expand slavery when it has Cuba, Kansas, and Central America written on the platform. Free Soilers would feel that slavery was being shoved down their throat because their belief stated that free men on free soil made a up a better system than slavery and people were being abducted from their homes and slavery was rapidly expanding.
Amanda Flynn The anti-slavery supporters created this political cartoon. Freesoilers would feel like slavery is being forced down their throats because the South keeps on getting more slaves and enforcing that slaves should be allowed everywhere so the Northerns feel that slavery is being forced upon them. This relates to the argument between the North and the South showing that southerns are making it so that there are slaves and the Northerns are having a hard time fighting them off and protecting the enslaved people. They aren't even allowed to protect slaves anymore.
The cartoon is showing how the south was pushing slave to a extreme point that they could handle and how there pushing slavery to the other states and there loop holes to get slaves in to free states and not get exposed this picture shows how the slave owners just steps on the small guys and they just bully them. Joey maillet per 2
Manaia Friend 2/18/15 Period 3 It is from the point of view of an antislavery person. A "freesoiler" could feel that slavery is being forced down their throat. Lots of other people were agreeing with slavery and obviously they were against slavery. They had to “go with the flow”. So many other people were pro slavery that they had to, too. Abe Lincoln represents the original constitution and how new rules are being forced on it.
This picture represents how slavery was a very common and popular thing back in the 1800s and how you were forced to have and own a slave because you would be different from everyone else. Also if you lived in the South everyone around you owned slaves and you didn't even if you were a slave state. You basically had to own one.
I think people are getting forced into having slaves even if they don't want to. Both the slave and the owner are good people who shouldn't have to do things they don't want to.
My opinion of this political cartoon is that they concept of slavery is being forced down the throat of America by not only the cotton gin but, the popularity expanding in the South. Slavery was not only in the South, it was widely discussed in the North for the wrong reasons. You couldn't escape slavery because it was either thriving in your area or was frowned upon and hopefully bringing up change in your area. Wherever you were slavery was always being shoved down your throat.
This very strong and meaningful political cartoon relates to slavery and how some people did not want to own and sell black people. It shows how the governement is forcing free soliers, as in farmers and regular citizens to be on their side about selling and having slaves. Many free soliers were farmers, they lived in the north, and northerners didnt want or even need slaves
That is talking about salvery and it should be gone for ever and no one should tolerate it, it also says that the owner of a salve is basically killing there slave there so that's a person that's againt slavery, first hand perspective because he was there when this happend, the slaves getting threw the guy because he is killing him so it's like he just killed him like that a pile of food.
This s showing how the northerners had to deal with slavery going on in this country, and they had no opinion like how its getting forced down their throats. This cartoon is coming from an abolitionist.
In this political cartoon, the focus is on influencing and convincing a "freesoiler" to own slaves. "Freesoilers" main purpose was opposing the expansion of slavery into the western territories, arguing that free men on free soil comprised a morally and economically superior system to slavery. This idea is coming from the democratic platform.
This political cartoon is showing how the act that makes northerners report runaway slaves to their owner is wrong. They could believe that slavery is wrong and not want to report it but they have to because if they don't then they could get punished. As in the cartoon, the man is being forced to let the man stick his hands down his throat and it says murder because if they give them up its murder.
I think that this political cartoon relates to slavery being forced down the throat of the northerners. I think that it is coming from the point of view of the north because the northerners are against slavery(they are freesoilers) and the southerners of Cuba, Kansas, and Central America(they're democrats; slave states) are trying to "force it down their throat" or make them accept and give in to slavery. I think the words, "Murder!!! help- neighbors help, O my poor Wife and Children" means that if the South succeeds in "forcing slavery down their throat," if they give in to slavery, then it would be the "death" of the north/freesoilers.
Lauren rancourt I think this picture represents Abraham Lincoln in the middle being pulled by the Republican amd democratic people. the Republican people are trying to stop the black man to be comforted and not a slave anymore. Also I think the democrats are trying to stop the slave and make him go back to the south.
This political cartoon reminds me of slaves in the north who are free being brought back to the south and forced into slavery.where they are pushing the person down his throat means he is forced against his will to slavery. The only way to get out is escape to Canada or Mexico.
The political cartoon shows the north and the south fighting over slavery. The south is pushing hard to let slavery be allowed in all states. The more the north tries to abolish slavery, the more the south pushes to keep slavery. The south is fighting to keep slavery legal. The south is on the left side adding more slaves and is fighting for slaves, while the north is on the right side trying to keep a grip on slavery and to contain it.
The political cartoon shows how a slave is being shoved down a freesoilers throat. The point of view would be probably from an anti-slavery person because slavery is growing and growing and growing. Slavery is being "shoved down the throat" means how slavery maybe wont die out.
I think this is coming from a northerner or slaves point of view. They're saying how people are being forced to leave their families and be slaves. They feel as if slavery is being forced down their throat because they don't have a say in being a slave or not they take the person and make them a slave.
This picture has to do with the Kansas-Nebraska act and its in the viewpoint of freesoilers. I think this picture is showing that they want to extend slavery because they are forcing a black man down his throat like their forcing slaves to do certain things. Kaitlyn Reagan
I think the political cartoo relates to how slavery in the country is growing and going deeper in the country. I think the view is coming from of how in this picture slavery is getting forced down their throat aying that slavery is becoming more common and a lot of slaves were needed picking cotton at that time. And it is like slavery is making people's lives change all around the country.
I think this political cartoon relates to the slavery issue that occurred in the 1800s. This is coming from the point of view of a northerner to use propaganda to let the people know that slavery is bad. A "freesolier" would feel as if slavery is being forced down their throat because if its showing that if you are a farmer in the south, then slavery is good fro economics and getting the work done, but as slavery grew more save owners were gathering more slaves and other farmers may have thought differently about slavery and not wanting a slave. Andrew period 3
This political cartoon relates to the Fugitave slave law of 1850. This relates to the act because, the Fugitive slave law allowed slave-hunters to seize alleged fugitive slaves without due process of law and prohibited anyone from helping escaped fugitives.Because it was often assumed that a black person was a slave, the law threatened the safety of all blacks, slave and free, and forced many Northerners to become more defiant in their support of fugitives. In that case causing many people out of their will to capture slave and free black no matter what. The point of view is the Northers or other civilians that are against slavery.
I think the political cartoon relates to some slavery laws in the north such as if you were to find a run away slave you are to bring it back and if you are caught hiding one you would be arrested. Also some people didn't want a thing to do with slavery but that law changed everything and the people who wanted nothing to do with it still had to obey the law.
I think this political cartoon relates to slavery, and how Free-Soilers had to catch the slave owners slave that had ran away. Forcing slavery down the throat of a freesoiler means that they are getting free people involved with slavery, and they shouldn't involve them, it's their problem. The point of view is coming from a northerner. Dakota Northrop Period 3
I think this cartoon is saying that slaves are forced into many things that they don't want to do. One of those things is being separated from their children. Many children ere separated and never saw their family's again. Also many slave hunters would force blacks to do many discounting things, kinda like this cartoon picture.
This is from a Northerners point of view. Slavery is being shoved down their throats because the south is saying, 'This is what's right, just accept it.' Then later, the law where Northerners have to help return the runaway slaves is like the Southerners saying, 'Now, you have to go against your morals and help a cause you don't believe in.'
My take on this cartoon is that it's from the view of both a Northern Freesoiler and a slave. The Southerners are pushing the slave down the throat of a Northerner. This is how the freesoilers felt because they were constantly pushing slavery. The poor slave is pleading for his family. He wants help from anyone, maybe those in the North.

I think this picture relates to the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 because the picture says that slavery is being forced down the throat of a freesoiler.

I believe this political cartoon means that the people who are for slavery are trying to convince the people against slavery to understand more about their point of view. The slavery side is forcing the idea to a level at which it is heard 24/7.

This political cartoon relates to how the freesoilers felt during the time of slavery.

Rachel C period 1

The anti-slavery supporters created this political cartoon.
It is from the point of view of an antislavery person.
Michael Wisentaner

Cassi Stoica
That is talking about salvery and it should be gone for ever and no one should tolerate it, it also says that the owner of a salve is basically killing there slave there so that's a person that's againt slavery, first hand perspective because he was there when this happend, the slaves getting threw the guy because he is killing him so it's like he just killed him like that a pile of food.

I think this picture represents Abraham Lincoln in the middle being pulled by the Republican amd democratic people. the Republican people are trying to stop the black man to be comforted and not a slave anymore.

I think this is coming from a northerner or slaves point of view. They're saying how people are being forced to leave their families and be slaves. I think the political cartoo relates to how slavery in the country is growing and going deeper in the country.
