A “total war” is any war that destroys everything. It is a very destructive war and is a war where a certain strategy is used. They move their troops forward to conquer more land. William T Sherman used this technique to move across Georgia. (“March across the Sea”) William T Sherman is affiliated with the term “total war” because he was the original creator of it and was the first to practice it.

Total war is a war where people have the freedom of where they fight, what they use to fight, and who they fight. This relates to Union William T. Sherman because he set up a campaign in 1864 in Georgia where they eventually captured Atlanta on September 2, 1864. He thought preserving the Union was very important so he set his mind on " destroying the Confederacy's material and psychological will to wage war." ( This event helped Lincoln win reelection.) He had the freedom of total war to do so. This event also led to him fighting against Georgia, Florida, and the Carolinas.

Total war is when any civilian/available weapons are used and all of the financial resources are devoted to the war. Also there are no rules or boundaries. William T. Sherman was a 'widely renowned' war union general(pretty famous for his time). He relates to the concept of total war because in around 1864,he launched a campaign in Georgia with the intention of "destroying the Confederacy's materials and will to wage war" according to civilwar.org and that brought "total destruction" on the people blocking him and his army from his enemies(confederate) using whatever means necessary.

Total war is related to Sherman for a few things. First off, total war is a war where all guns, or anything is acceptable. Secondly, William Sherman was an American soldier that fought in the Civil war. He was a man that was recognized by his military strategy. Total war and Sherman are alike for military reasons meaning he has fought in the most horrific battle in the world.

The term total war means that the weapons, laws, and rules used during the fighting are not restricted. Union William T. Sherman was a Union fighter and highly praised for his skills on the battlefield. The name Union William T. Sherman can be connected to the term "total war" because of his fighting tactics which consisted of intimidating civilians to cause chaos. He burned houses and stole food and livestock from people along the way of his march. Logically these two relate because total war is lack of rules and laws and Union William T. Sherman went around breaking most laws while he fought.

Total War is when someone takes war to the extreme. William T. Sherman seized many states in the South and did anything he could to win the War. He attempted to gain control of most of the South, which Abraham Lincoln admired. Sherman was a great example of Total War because he did whatever it takes and wanted to win the war so badly that he seized other states and kept on pushing forward.

Total War is a battle of limitless proportions in weapon usage and brutality and it relates to William T. Sherman because total war was the tactic and strategy he lead the North into when fighting against the Confederate States of America in the American Civil War. Sherman's approach came with inevitable criticism from the Confederates, however, his strategy proved effective in the overall scheme of the American Civil War under the command of of Ulysses S. Grant in the eventual victory of Grant, Sherman, and the Union.

"Total War" is a war in which you show no pity towards your enemy. This relates to Major General William T. Sherman because of his famous march to the sea. In 1864 Sherman decided that to win the war and preserve the Union they must launch an offensive to destroy everything. The army's path effectively caused a 60 to 40 mile wide path of destruction threw the heart of Georgia. They burned anything they couldn't carry with them. This was Sherman's famous "March to the Sea". He did come up with and execute his plan but it did not mean he liked it. "I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell." -William T. Sherman.

A "Total War" is a war when things that won't normally be aloud in a war can be done, there are no restrictions, there are no longer any laws. William T. Sherman had his own ways of doing things, this lead to him being very successful. He commanded three armies using his numbers he over powered the other armies, he'd bring destruction to civilians. His strategy is much like a total war.

Total war is a war where all available weapons from the nation are used and the land and people involved are completely ignored. he nation’s entire financial resources are devoted in order to win the conflict. William T. Sherman, the Union general was the first person who practiced this strategy in the Civil War, destroying everything in his path, so the Southerners’ will to fight would be broken. In 1864, he had done this from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia in the “March to the Sea.”

Total war is a war that has no restrictions to weaponry, the people, and the territory involved. During the Civil War, Union General William T. Sherman said he wanted to win the war with the fewest casualties, and by doing that, he needed his Union troops to go into total war against the Confederate States.

The term Total war refers to a war that is unrestrained meaning that both adversaries can bestow any type of harm onto whomever they choose using any weaponry or to invade on anything they please. Such as food necessities, land or even firearms The rules are limitless. This relates to William T. Sherman because he wanted to show his hatred for the Confederacy alongside the Southern states in general. He displayed his raging emotions by unexpectedly traveling through Georgia, he made his way swiftly over to other areas of the South. Beside his troops, they then began vandalizing the citizens property, robbing them of food, livestock and killing them within a blink of an eye. This lessened the population of the South because their resources were diminished. Therefore if they were not shot down in these many violent attacks they died out overtime. This made the Southern troops lack in strength and overall support when in battle. They did not have solid defenders. It is clear that William T. Sherman unleashed a Total War on the Confederacy. To emphasize he destroyed several structures that were crucial for human life and survival at the time of 1864.

Total war means that all resources are used and there is a lot of strategy involved. It isn't just guns being fired at opposing sides, there is a lot of thought put into how to fight the war. Commanders and generals use all of their resources around them to win the war. Total war involves thinking outside the box.
This applies to William T. Sherman because he used all of his resources and used his smarts and weapons to win the American Civil War instead of using just weapons. Sherman received an award for outstanding command of military strategy which proves that Sherman used his smarts to help win the war.

What William Sherman used in order for the South to lose their advantages in the Civil War was a strategy called total war. This strategy targets the opposing side's weaknesses by stealing their supplies and degrading the morale by making life miserable. How Sherman used this in terms of the Confederacy is he marched his troops down to the South and seized Atlanta. This was momentous because Atlanta was the industrial capital of the Confederacy. Since Sherman did this it created a ripple effect in a shortage of supplies in the Confederacy. He also went to other places in the South and stole food and animals and burned down houses and barns. This caused panic in the residents of the seceded states because that didn't think life would be this brutal. In the end, because of William Sherman and his "Total War" tactic the Union now had the upper hand in the Civil War.
