What is the most important idea in the Gettysburg Address?  Why do you believe that?

The most important idea spoken of in Lincoln's Gettysburg Address is that the North will not stop perusing an effort to win the great and difficult task ahead of defeating the South in the American Civil War. This is the most important idea because Lincoln talks about honoring the men who have fallen at the three day battle of Gettysburg and that they did not lay down their lives for nothing because the North will win the war no matter what.

I think the most important part of the Gettysburg address is that out of 170,000 Union and Confederate soldiers, there were 23,000 Unions and 28,000 Confederates killed, wounded or missing (more than a third of Lee’s army). I think show because this is a very important fact that shows how many life's were effected.

The important thing about the Gettysburg address was that it inspired many people even though it was only 2 minutes long it's like they always say short and sweet unlike the main speaker who spoke for 2 hours and in fact Lincoln's speech was so memorable when people imatate him they always say his intro to that speed "four scores and seven years ago "

The most important part of the Gettysburg Address is that Lincoln wanted everyone to honor the people that fought for their country. He talks a lot about dedicating and he whens to honor the people that fought in the civil war or the people that died protecting the country from seperation.

The most important idea in the Gettysburg Address is that the Civil War caused so much unnecessary pain and suffering. This is the most important idea because this war was about preserving the Union and but then it changed to be about slavery. Abraham is upset that that this country has gone from being a country of freedom and equality to a place of a disagreement and opposition. The Gettysburg Address was in tribute to all this pain and suffering and it is in devotion to all the men and what they fought for.

The most important idea in the Gettysburg Address was that all men are created equal. Lincoln states, “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” He is saying 87 years ago, the Founding Fathers created a new Nation of freedom and were true to the fact that all men were created equal. This is very important because the Civil War was a war not only for the nation, but for slavery as well. If the Founding Fathers believed in the fact that all men are created equal, they would not approve of slavery.

The most important idea in Abraham Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address" is to keep the Union as one solid nation. I believe this because of three lines. The first is "as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live". This is important because it means keeping the nation together is something to die for. The second quote is "Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure." This shows keeping the union together is his main goal. The last quote is "...and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth." This implies that without the Union staying as one solid nation it will fail. The most important idea in the Gettysburg Address was that the Union must stay together.

I believe the most important idea of the Gettysburg Address is the idea that we should work harder to win the war to honor those who have died in the war. If we do not win the war then all those people who died, would have died for no reason. Lincoln states, “that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain,” and we should, “take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion.” Lincoln is trying to motivate his audience and all the soldiers fighting the war that they should be more devoted to the cause because of all the fallen soldiers who had taken their last breath fighting for the Union and were being buried at the cemetery at Gettysburg.

I believe the most important idea in the Gettysburg Address is the idea that the government should be for the people. Lincoln states, "and that government of the people, by the people, for the people". I think this is the most important idea because if the government is truly for its people then they should ensure everyone is treated equally. They should want to give everyone equal rights which is why Lincoln is continuing too fight the civil war.

The most important idea in The Gettysburg Address was that the soldiers wanted to honor the fallen veterans that fought but were deceased. This aspect of the Gettysburg Address shows that the concept of love and friendship is significant. Also, these men were determined to fight for liberation from this war no matter what obstacles or hardships they faced. Clearly the concept of determination and bravery is important because it was their hope and courage instilled within them that kept them up and running from the beginning of the Civil War. I believe that these are valuable ideas because they gave these fighting soldiers strength in a period of history when it was difficult to truly possess it.

In the Gettysburg Address, I believe the most important idea expressed is that we must keep this nation and government together, and not let it divide into parts. This is because the Gettysburg Address states,"...and that government of the people...by the people...for the people...shall not perish from the earth." Here, it shows how Lincoln is concerned about the government, and we as the people in the nation need to make sure it doesn't divide.

The most important idea in the Gettysburg Address was that the civil war needed to end so that the many brave men who lost their lives wouldn't die unrecognized as they, "...have thus far so nobly advanced," the pursue of the war. In order to honor them and realize their many struggles and bravery to the end, Lincoln believed these remaining soldiers were now required to finish what was started. I believe this because Lincoln so boldly exclaims, "It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us... that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measures of devotion... that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain... that this nation,under God, shall have a new birth of freedom... and that government of the people of the people... by the people... for the people... shall not perish from the earth," (The Gettysburg Address, Lincoln). This excerpt from Lincoln's Address truly proves his absolute focus on ending what was started to show that the men who have long perished away by the cause of this civil war played a part in the great changes that would follow, as long as soldiers stuck to this enthusiasm for fighting for what they all so greatly believe in.

I think the most important part of the Gettysburg Address was the fact that he honored the soldiers, living and dead. He specifically says, “We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live.” He is taking part of the battle field and creating a cemetery for those lost. I believe that this is the most important idea because it is important to give credit to those who were fighting and keeping the people safe.

Abe wanted to say that we can get through this and that the civil war was just a test on our nation to see if we were worthy. The most important idea is that the country stays together. This is most important because a country that's been rid of slavery could start it up again as soon as it's independent. The country needed to defeat slavery as a whole, not in pieces. Keeping the U.S. from falling apart was first priority.

I believe this because by reminding the entire country that we all came from the same point of view at least once in history and we all fought for the same thing, people will begin to compromise with each side and realize that since we fought so hard for the U.S. to be something, why should we let it all go to waste?

I believe the most important part of the Gettysburg Address was when Lincoln was addressing what will happen going forth. In the document it states "...to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced... from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause..." This quote shows that Lincoln is more determined than ever to win this war and wishes to avenge all those who believed for what they died for was a noble cause and to win the war and that they will not be forgotten.

I believe this because Abe was saying that we should make this place sacred and that the "...soldiers should not die in vein." Lincoln talked about the soldiers being remembered, so they made a burial site.

I think this is the most important part of the speech because you would think that Lincoln would dedicate the dead, but instead he dedicates the living. This shows that Lincoln wants to move on from the war and he wants the people to know that everything will not be all perfect after the Civil War. He uses the dead to prove a point to the living.

The most important idea in The Gettysburg Address is to set slaves free. I believe that this is the most important idea because Lincoln started the war to keep the country together (stop the South from seceding) but his intentions towards the end of the war were to put an end to slavery in the South. He did this because he knew making the war about ending slavey would make the country split apart.

He is trying to say that they are finally going to have a free nation. Everyone will be free. Also he is trying to say that he is going to save the union. That was one of Lincoln's main goals in the beginning of the civil war. I believe this because he is speaking for the nation. He keeps saying "we", so that means that everyone will be free. He speaks like he is part of the nation so it is very believable.

I believe that the most important part of the Gettysburg Address is the part when Lincoln writes in the first paragraph, "...Our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation: conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." Lincoln explains that the founding fathers built the country on with the intention that everyone treats everyone equally and with respect. It is inferred that Lincoln is actually addressing the South and saying that the slaves are equal to us. They are not property, they are humans and it is not our position to buy and sell our own kind like goods. He is basically saying that the reason we are involved in the war is because we could not fulfill the goals of our founding fathers; that all men are created equal.

The most important idea of the Gettysburg address is that no matter what Abe Lincoln doesn't want the dead of the union to die in vain. In order to achieve that, he desperately wants the nation to stay a democracy and also, which isn't as high on his list, to free all slaves. Lincoln has always had bias about slavery and how it is wrong but he believes it is his job as president to not do what he wants, but to do what is best for the nation. That is preserving the United States and keeping the democracy.
